Yesterday I completed a really cool craft bag. It is from Sew Sweetness (the pattern is free when you sign up for the newsletter). There’s also a video on the Sew Sweetness YouTube channel with step-by-step instructions that was really helpful!
New skills I learned while making this bag:
- Sewing with faux leather: I used a teflon foot and it worked great
- Adding purse hardware: metal D rings for the handles
- Installing snaps: I used some decorative snaps from Joann’s. I didn’t want to buy a bunch of snaps AND a snap setting just for this. I was able to use my tailor’s clapper as a mallet (I didn’t feel like finding a hammer) with no trouble. Poking the little prongs through the fabric first (like the instructions tell you) makes the installation pretty easy.
I am really happy with how this came out, and I’ve already got one of my works in progress stashed inside (Cypress Textiles Time Traveler’s Blanket). I’m looking forward to making more bags soon. I’ve already got a Clydebank tote pattern cut out!
